The Lifestyle of Attention Deficit Dissorder essays

The Lifestyle of Attention Deficit Dissorder essays The Lifestyle of Attention-Deficit Disorder Have you ever been around someone with ADD You may have been and never known it. People with this disorder are mostly like you and I. There are several things involved in having ADD. To have a good understanding of this disorder, you need to know the cause of it, the observational characteristics, and the impact it has on the child. Scientists have researched this disorder for years. They still dont know the cause of attention- deficit disorder. It has been regarded to be a biological disorder caused by some abnormalities in the brain. Studies have shown that areas of the brain that controls the attention span and limit impulsive behavior are less active in people with ADD (Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). Other studies have a theory that this disorder could be hereditary. Most often, ADD is found in more males Than females. One study showed that about one- third of fathers with ADD in childhood have children with the disorder as well (Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). There are several medications that are out there that can help the brain work normally. ADD children and adults show various observational characteristics that are evident to people with the disorder. The characteristics include various levels of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness. Inattention, for people with ADD, causes them to have difficulty with keeping their mind on one thing. They tend to have trouble with certain tasks after a few minutes, make careless mistakes, and have trouble listening. On the opposite side of the spectrum, people with ADD sometimes can focus on and complete several things at one time. Hyperactivity is involved more with ADHD. This is ADD with the factor of hyperactivity more present. It involves almost constant motion. Children may not be ...

Traditional Antibiotics That Can Be Found Essays

Traditional Antibiotics That Can Be Found Essays Traditional Antibiotics That Can Be Found Essay Traditional Antibiotics That Can Be Found Essay Traditional antibiotics that can be found in the local drugstore are used to fight against the common cold or common infection and indiscriminately kills everything at once. There are many reasons why instantly going for antibiotics when something goes wrong with our bodies is something that shouldnt be done regularly. Antibiotics have brought an age of resistant bacteria which means that they are unaffected by he antibiotics because they have adapted to not be affected by them. This in turns makes it more difficult to fight against them. This means that increased dosages or antibiotics that are stronger must be used which can have more severe side effects. And so, in response to the current day problem with antibiotics, researchers from the university of Rockefeller have been working on a smarter way to fight bacteria using programmable antibiotics which specifically targets the antibiotic resistance genes and cuts it out of the DNA sequence. By using the bacterial enzyme known as Case, the researchers were successful in getting it to target a particular DNA sequence and remove it from the bacteria. This new approach could reduce the risk of C. Dif (which is an infection of the colon) and they were able to get Case to target the specific sequence by

PSA( Public Service Announcement ) Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

PSA( Public Service Announcement ) - Assignment Example Unlike many other images that show college drinking as a fun activity, this picture presents a single individuals and who is not really attractive. In other words, the message that is sent here is that girls might lose their attractiveness and they may also be abandoned by the friends afterwards. Another important part of the message is the comparison of a drunken person to a doormat. In spite of the fact that the latter object may not be considered to be something negative, but it is a think that is always low to the ground and the everyone uses to wipe one’s feet. It is quite obvious that no one would like to experience a state similar to that. The picture also contains a message which is situated in the lower left corner. The arrangement may be explained by two factors: by the picture of the girl that was used as well the idea that people are more interested in reading text that they spent some time looking for rather than the text that is given to them straight away. Thus, this text contains an ironic message that criticizes college drinking and discourages people to participate in it by putting emphasis on the negative consequences that it brings. Another interesting element of the composition is the bubble which is depicted above the head of the girl. It is used to represent her thought about her actions on the day before. It is shows the dangers that irresponsible drinking is able to bring. As one can easily see, there is a white word â€Å"Welcome† written over her back. This is done in order to reinforce the analogy between a body a drunken person who lies on the floor and the doormat. The word does not have any hidden message and was used only because a similar word is used on the typical doormats. Speaking of the composition of the picture, it is clear that the main character is not depicted in the center, but closer to the lower right corner. This was done to reflect that idea that a drunken person may

Counseling Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Counseling - Essay Example The main types are ‘anorexia nervosa and binge-eating and usually develop during adolescence or early adulthood’ (Natl. Inst. Of Mental Health). This disorder usually ‘co-occurs with psychiatric disorders like substance abuse, anxiety disorder and depression’ (American Psychiatric Association 2000). People with anorexia consider themselves as overweight although they are already the opposite. They tend to avoid food and meals, become picky and eat only in small quantities. They constantly check their body weight and engage in weight control techniques like too much exercise or ‘purging by means of vomiting and abuse of laxatives, enemas, and diuretics’ (American Psychiatric Association 2000). On the other hand, binge-eaters eat until over full, eat large amounts even though not hungry and don’t practice purging so they become overweight for their age and height. Some of the physiological myths about hunger and satiety include a common bel ief that our blood glucose levels affect our hunger and satiety. But research shows that this is untrue because ‘glucose levels remain fairly stable and do not fluctuate often’ (Stier 2009). Also, they say that our energy levels drop along with our blood glucose and this trigger hunger so we should eat again to restore our levels back to the standard energy level.

What was it like in the 1940s? Who lived worked there? What sort of environment was it? Whats it like now? Brooklyn is a borough of New York; in the 1940s it had a large Italian population due to the ports near the bridge. Brooklyn was split in two it had the middle class areas such as Flatbush working class areas like Red Hook, the setting for A View The Bridge. In the mid to late 1940s Brooklyn was enjoying a good period the gang violence was, all though easily noticed, small. As Brooklyn reached the end of the 1940s the borough began a period of decline by the early 1950s gangsters were ripe until the 1980s it was classed as a bad place to live. People from all over Europe lived worked in Brooklyn it also had a large African-American community. Brooklyn now has a safer cleaner track record with very little gang violence a large business district the 3rd largest in New York State. Which groups of people immigrated to the United States in the 1940s? What was life like for them when they arrived? Alfieris first speech. What have we learnt about the people who live in Red Hook? We have learnt from the opening speech from Alfieri that Red Hook was the slum of Brooklyn the gullet of New York, Red Hook is portrayed as very violent with no care for the law, but it is now ore civilised getting better, people are no longer as scared as they were, as Alfieri says: I no longer feel the need to keep a gun It shows Red Hook at one time was extremely intimidating bad but now much better. Alfieri goes onto mention how his relatives often tell him not to get involved with cases, this shows the Italian-American-tight knit-family-like-ness how his business seems to be everyones business. What does Alfieri mean when he says justice is very important here? When Alfieri says justice is very important here he is using a bit of sarcasm he is commenting on how people do feel justice is important but their own personal justice not the governments justice. How people can commit murder believing it is all right because of there own justice. However you feel a sense of irony as he is a lawyer speaking he is discussing justice that he may well deal with in court. The fact he is a lawyer also shows there is work for lawyers in Red Hook so some sort of governed justice is important. Now the people settle for half instead of using a gun for justice, what does that mean? Alfieris comment now the people settle for half is commenting on now that Red Hook has been cleaned up a bit his services a called on more although it means the person against the allegations may not be killed he will be brought to governed justice possible face prison. Eddies story is not like the petty troubles of the poor. Why might he come to see Alfieri? Eddies story is not like the petty troubles of the poor because we realise through out the book that aside from the immigrants in his house being illegal, they have actually done nothing wrong although his allegations against Rodolfo being gay are also wrong, it is not illegal to be gay. Alfieri also deals mainly in family squabbles, evictions compensation cases, but Eddies is different because its more about jealousy revenge.

A Portrait of a Young Man Essay -- essays papers

A Portrait of a Young Man. Portrait of a Young Man was painted by Angolo Bronzino between the years of 1503-1572. The portrait is 37 5/8 by 29 Â ½ inches and is an oil on wood( Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1999). I picked this painting because of the self assurance, at first glance, of the young man that is depicted. This appealed to me because it reflected my own attitude. After studying the portrait for a considerable amount of time I began to see possible sadness or self-doubt in the young mans face that betrays his powerful stance. I felt a connection to the young man, knowing all too well what it was like to present a powerful outside image while knowing there was a self conscious and scared person inside. The main image of the portrait is the young man. He is wearing a long black jacket, in the style of the sixteenth century, with part of a white ruffled collar and cuffs peeking out of his jacket. He is also wearing a black and what appears to be a beaded beret. He has a light complexion. His oval shaped face contains an oval shaped dark eyes with light, rounded eyebrows. He has an elongated nose with an indentation underneath it. He has peach colored lips and a clefted chin. He is slightly turned towards the viewer. His left hand is resting on his waist, the fingers are spread apart except for his middle and ring fingers, they're close together and his right hand is holding a poetry book ( Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1999 ) with ...

Individuals and Their Discoveries Are Not Enough to Bring Medical Progress Essay

Individuals and their discoveries are not enough on their own to bring medical progress. Explain how far this statement applies to Jenner and his work. Jenner’s discovery of the link between cowpox and smallpox was significant to the development of a vaccine for smallpox. However, it can be argued that Jenner and his discovery were not enough on their own to bring medical progress. The factors Scientific thinking, Government Communication and Changing attitudes played a major and important role to bring medical progress. One reason as to why the statement applies to Jenner and his work is because the Government worked in Jenner’s favour to bring medical progress. In 1802 and 1807, Parliament gave Edward Jenner  £30,000 to develop his work on vaccination. This clearly indicates that without the help of Parliament, Jenner’s work would not have shown as much signs of advancement; hence he would not have had the money to progress. In addition to this, fifty years later vaccination was made compulsory in Britain which led a dramatic drop in smallpox cases. This evidently shows that without the help of the Government, Jenner’s work would not have been as widely spread and used by the people as much; therefore the government did play a significant role his Edward Jenner’s development of Vaccinations. A different explanation as to why the statement is relevant to Jenner and his work is because of the communication. This factor is seen to have an impact on the medical progress of Jenner, is because without the spread of Jenner’s discoveries, people would not be aware of vaccinations. In 1798, Jenner published his own accounts of his discover, spreading the details of his methods worldwide. Consequently, that people could see his work but scientists in particular were able to see his work and they could learn from his work. This is evidence that by spreading his work worldwide, it brought medical progress; it was not just Edward Jenner alone brought medical progress to the development of a vaccine for smallpox. A different factor as to why the statement applies to Jenner and his work is because of the changing attitudes. Due to many people who had begun to think in a more scientific way, this meant that they were more open into accepting Jenner’s theory for Vaccinations. This implies that if people’s attitudes were similar to people who had supernatural beliefs, they would not have accepted the theory, therefore without the changing attitudes, Jenner’s work would not have caused a huge medical progression. Another reason which explains how the statement is relevant to Jenner and his work is because of the scientific thinking. Edward Jenner was able to use scientific method and experimentation in his research which is a clear indication his work can be considered trustworthy and it is likely to be accurate. Jenner also tested out his theory on a small boy which proved his theory to be correct but also on twenty-three other people. This shows that without the scientific methods and experiments, Jenner would not have reached the conclusion that his hypothesis was correct; therefore this is evidence for medical progress. Jenner’s scientific thinking is a key factor because without it, scientists would not have been able to see his work. Also his work would not have been as widely spread; people would not trust his work if it hadn’t been tested accurately, therefore people would not use his work. Another explanation as to why the statement applies to Jenner and his work is because of the individuals. Jenner himself had the insight to realise the link between cowpox and smallpox was important. If Jenner was not a determined individual and did not carry and publish his research, the theory of vaccination would most likely not exist today. Jenner had carried on, despite opposition and criticism which indicates with Jenner’s determination, he brought medical progress. In addition to this, Jenner also tested his theory of vaccination on twenty three people, including his six month old baby which shows he is a very dedicated individual. To conclude, there are many factors to support this statement: Government, Communication, Changing attitudes and Scientific thinking all bring medical progress, alongside the individuals and their discoveries. However, Scientific thinking caused the biggest impact on the medical progress because without whilst his methods and experiments, people would not trust his work, therefore people would not use his work.

Charcuterie

Charcuterie originated from the French term ‘chair cuit' which translates as ‘cooked meat'. Charcuterie is known around the world and is considered to be the art and science of the pig. Charcuterie is an ancient art that began nearly 6,000 years ago (Amiotte, 2007). Charcuterie became popular during the Roman Empire when food started to become sophisticated. Charcuterie was extremely popular in France during the Middle Ages. During the Middle Ages, France started many different varieties of meatloaves, sausages, and cured items that were prepared and sold in meat shops. These shops were known as charcutiers. These shops were owned and operated by people called charcutiers (Amiotte, 2007). Charcutiers needed to know how to season and cook delicious food, but they also needed to present the food in a way that would attract customers who walked by their shops. In the late 1400's and the early 1500's, food related illnesses and diseases became an epidemic in France. The French government had to maintain a strict separation between fisheries, slaughterhouses, butchers, and charcuteries to avoid cross contamination (Smith, 2012).The decision of separation made by the government made the charcutiers very upset because the regulations kept the slaughtering of animals and fish away from meat markets and the charcutiers had to depend on the suppliers for product. Charcutiers were outraged at the situation the government had put them in since they now had to pay more for their supplies. The price of supplies went along with supply and demand, which did not always do well with the charcutiers (Amiotte, 2007).Their ability to slaughter and process their own animals, allowed them to control their supply and costs, had now been taken away from them along with their ability to create different food item. The government finally decided to allow the charcutiers to sell salted herring and other types of fish during Lent when meat products were prohibited, in an attempt to quiet them (Samuel, 2011). Government regulations were finally eased in the 1600's and charcuteries were allowed to slaughter their own animals for processing.Charcutiers began experimenting with different meats and fowl, resulting in new and different foods for customers to purchase. It also created a competition between the charcutiers, causing them to boost their culinary skills in order to present the best possible food products for their customers (Smith, 2012). The popular products and processes of the French Charcutiers spread to France's neighboring regions. Frankfurt, Germany for example, became famous for the ‘Frankfurter', a smoked sausage; a hot dog is an American version of the Frankfurter served in a bun. Genoa Salami' and ‘Bologna' were produced in Genoa and Bologna, Italy (Amiotte, 2007). Travelers from Europe to the United States brought the techniques they had learned with them and they applied them to the natural resources they discovered. Pennsylv ania became famously known for its sausage preparation. Virginia was known for its fabulous cured and smoked hams. Eventually, all throughout the states, everyone had their own variation of the classic meatloaf (Bree, 2012). The authentic European regional specialties and the more recent American creations have lasted throughout the years. These food items are still available for consumers in any local or regional supermarkets, 400 to 500 years later. This incredible assortment of cooked, cured and stuffed meats, poultry and fish make up the culinary arts field of garde manger called charcuterie (Doherty, 2001). References Amiotte, C. Induction Training Essays

Induction Training Essays Induction Training Essay Induction Training Essay Induction Training is extremely vital for Beginners. Good induction training make sure new comers are retained, and settled in quickly and happily. Induction training is more than skill training. It is about the basics that new employees take. By doing this the employees would know when the shifts are, where the notice-board is, whats the routine for holidays, sick days, where the canteen is, what is the dress code, and where the toilets are, new employees need to understand the organizations tasks, goals, values, personnel practices, health and safety rules, and the job theyre required to do with understandable methods. Proper induction training is a legal requirement. Employers have the duty to provide new employees with all relevant information and training relating to health and safety. As a manager for new employees it is their responsibility to ensure that induction training is properly planned. The trainers must make sure its planned and organized properly for their new comer. An induction training plan must be issued to each new employee, before the new employee starts, and this is copied to everyone in the organization who is involved in providing the training, so the new comer and everyone else involved can see whats happening and that everything is included. Creating and issuing a suitable induction plan for each new comer will help them do their job better and quicker and with less dependence on the employers time in the future. Employees who are not properly inducted need a lot more looking after. On The Job Training  The Advantages of Using On Job Training:  Training can be delivered at a specific time, for example immediately before a job is to be performed for real in the workplace. The trainee will have opportunities to practice immediately and they would have instant feedback. Training an employee in their own working environment, with equipment they are familiar with and people they know, can help them gain direct experience. The Disadvantages of Using On Job Training:  The training may be given little by little and not properly planned; the trainee would then get an unclear picture of the organization. Too much training can be delivered in one session leading to information overload and trainee fatigue. This would make the trainee forget things, miss understand things, or not know things. The trainer may not have sufficient knowledge of the company and this would make the training pointless as he or she would know sufficient things but also insufficient things. The trainer may also pass on bad habits for the trainee to learn. Basics of On The Job Training  Preparation:  Good preparation is essential; the best trainers  have useful examples of practice exercises. The worst thing of on the job training is trying to demonstrate how to use equipment when the trainer has forgotten the password that gives access to the computer program or the key to the equipment cupboard. So preparing the training is vital. Start with the Learner:  The trainee begins by learning how much the trainer knows already. It would save a lot of training time if the trainee knows some information on how to use computers etc. instead of the trainer training them to use them. For example, Tescos have hired two new employees and they have to train on how to work the computers at the till. If the employees know the basic functions of the computer already, then it would save training time, all the trainer has to do is make sure of this and just teach them the parts they dont know about. Picking the Best Time: When employees train, they need to select the best time for them too. Otherwise the training days would clash with something the employee had already planed, if there is a clash, and then the employee would have to tell the Human resources department that, they cannot make that time or day. Also if the employee misses the training day, then he or she would miss information about their job and might also fail the course. Off The Job Training:  Off the job training is basically when, trainees work off the job. This is issued when it is not suitable for training on the job. The sorts of things that need off the job training are things to do with machines. E.g. in Tescos, the machines at the tills would be off the training because trainees would need to know the functions and controls and how to use the machine correctly.  Disciplinary:  Disciplinary is to do with, Health and safety, Attitude and Behavior, Equipment, Uniform and pending investigations.  When an employee or employees are hired, they have to follow the disciplinary procedure. This procedure is used to ensure the health and safety of staff and customers, attitude towards customers, behavior, uniform and equipment. With health and safety, Tescos would use warning signs to show slippery surfaces etc. These sign are put up to ensure that both the Employees and customers are safe, not being able to put up a warning sign whether if the employee didnt spill anything, the risk of safety towards the customers is vast. Also if the employee who did spill something but hasnt put up a warning sign, he or she would probably get a sack or get a warning. The warnings that are issued are, verbal, formal, and if the employee still disapproves then they would get a sack. Customer Service  Customers always expect good customer services in any stop. In Tescos  customers would expect to look for help when they are looking for a particular item. Staff would give guidance to the customers and guide them to the aisle. Without customer service, a customer would have to look all around the store looking for the item, when it would have been far easier if the staff provided the customer service. Customer service do many things one of the out store services is collecting trolleys that have been abandoned or left randomly in a parking space; the staff also collects them in the trolley parks. This is helpful for the customers as it enables them to get a trolley just outside the store instead of walking to the trolley parks to get them. Another Service in store would be smart cars or wheel chairs for the disabled; this helps the disabled big time because if they couldnt push a trolley or walk they can use these instead. So, Tescos provide these to enable disabled people to also shop with ease.  Customer service is all about how the staff treats and helps the customers, the staff have to be in full uniform (if they have one), dressed neatly, correct attitude, handling goods safely and polite. If this were not met then it would be poor customer service and could put a mark on the companies name.

The Remote Past Tense in Italian

The Remote Past Tense in Italian The remote past tense (passato remoto), although typically used to talk about history or in literature, is actually a simple tense and is formed by one word. In general, as we referenced, it refers to the historical past or to events that have happened in the distant past relative to the speaker. However, there are many places in the south of Italy that still use the remote past tense as the passato prossimo. For example, someone might use the past remote tense to talk about something that happened just two weeks ago. How to Form the Past Remote Tense Follow this format to form the passato remoto of regular verbs: For -are verbs, drop the infinitive ending and add one of these personal endings to the root: -ai, -asti, -à ², -ammo, -aste, -arono.For -ere verbs, drop the infinitive ending and add these personal endings to the root: -ei, -esti, -à ©, -emmo, -este, -erono. Note that many regular -ere verbs have an alternative form in the first person singular, third person singular, and third person plural forms. For -ire verbs, drop the infinitive ending and add these personal endings to the root: -ii, -isti, -à , -immo, -iste, -irono. Here are a few examples of how the remote past is used in Italian: Dante si rifugià ² a Ravenna. - Dante took refuge in Ravenna.Petrarca morà ¬ nel 1374. - Petrarca died in 1374.Michelangelo nacque nel 1475. - Michelangelo was born in 1475. The table below provides examples of three regular Italian verbs (one of each class) conjugated in the remote past tense. Conjugating Italian Verbs in the Remote Past Tense PARLARE RICEVERE CAPIRE io parlai ricevei (ricevetti) capii tu parlasti ricevesti capisti lui, lei, Lei parl ricev (ricevette) cap noi parlammo ricevemmo capimmo voi parlaste riceveste capiste loro, Loro parlarono riceverono (ricevettero) capirono Irregular Verbs in the Past Remote Tense Like with most verbs in Italian, there are plenty of irregular ones in the past remote tense. Here are five common verbs. 1) Essere – To be fui   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚     fummo fosti   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚     foste fu   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚     furono - Albert Einstein fu un uomo di grande saggezza. – Albert Einstein was a man of great wisdom. - â€Å"Fatti non foste per viver come bruti†¦Ã¢â‚¬ - â€Å"Consider your origins: You were not born to live like brutes.
